Top Ten Reasons Amorex's Frozen Semen Is Great The reasons Amorex's frozen semen is great and is slightly better than the fresh-cooled are: 1. You never miss the ovulation of the follicle, waiting for Fedex to get there. The frozen semen comes to the vet early, days before the mare is bred. 2. This semen was frozen when he was four years old and in peak condition; in liquid nitrogen it will be the same 40 years from now. 3. Dr. Juan Samper said it is conservatively better than 70% motility; many vets say it looks much better than some of the fresh-cooled semen that they get in from various stallions. 4. Amorex has always been fed flax seed, originally for a shiny coat.New studies show that Omega 3 fatty acids make a big difference on stallion fertility rates, especially how semen is able to handle cooling or freezing. 5. There is a test for if the little head of the sperm, the acrosome , is damaged in freezing. So semen can look good but not get conception if the acrosome is damaged... this is called an agglutination test. Amorex's semen did wonderful on this test. 6. Many frozen semen doses from Europe have only 400 to 500 million progressively motile sperm per dose; Amorex's has 700 to 800 million. The higher doses have been shown in studies to have substantially better conception rates. 7. Most frozen semen lives in the mare 12 hours or
less (I have heard 9 hours). 8. Dr. Juan Samper, who froze it, is one of the top reproductive vets (theriogenologists) in the world. He used to be President of the society for Theriogenoligists... he wrote the textbook on repro, used in many vet schools. He supervises Paul Schockemohle's breeding program, supervising the German repro vets. He goes all over the world, teaching semen freezing to vet schools. 9. Dr. Samper told me at the time of freezing this semen, he considered it some of the best he had ever seen. When I said something about all young stallion owners say that, he said, "No, you don't understand,I go all over the world doing this, and this is some of the best frozen I have ever seen". (At that time I knew he was good but I did not know quite how respected he was in the theriogenology community). 10. We have an outstanding conception rate, on one dose--you can have all the facts in the world, but getting the pregnancies is what counts. 11. (hey I know it is one extra! ) Amorex. Amorex is a simply wonderful stallion that significantly improves on all mares. People love his foals, and riders love the grown offspring. More than 80% of his foals are given a first class rating at inspection; I was told by a Swedish judge that in Sweden, 25 % first class foals is normal. |

Proof Is In the Pudding In 2000, Amorex was in training with Bettina Drummond, at her farm in Connecticut. We were here, with mares to be bred, so they were all bred with Amorex's frozen semen. One week I had to be gone, and a wonderful old arabian mare, Valaida, needed to be bred. I was working with a veterinarian who was new to me, but an experienced vet from the thoroughbred industry. I had been doing the AI with Amorex's frozen myself, then the week to breed the old mare came I had to be away. My new vet had never actually done a breeding with frozen, And I wasn't going to be here to assist him. So he went ahead and bred old Valaida with one straw of Amorex's frozen semen....she took right away. I remember thinking it was extraordinary; Valaida had been given to me at age 23, an old Crabbet-bred mare. She was in wonderful shape. However when she foaled, and I looked at her registration papers, I discovered she was actually 24 when she conceived. One straw, and with a vet that had never used frozen semen before... the resulting filly Valora was stunning, a legacy to her wonderful mother. |
